About OpenNLC
OpenNLC is a collaborative effort to make HVAC + NLC integration accessible and free. It targets light commercial buildings with constant volume HVAC units and heat pumps. By leveraging real-time occupancy data, the project enables integrators and contractors to implement software that reduces energy waste in unoccupied spaces while ensuring comfort in occupied areas. This initiative promotes sustainable building operations without the need for extensive retrofits.
Highlighted benefits include significant energy savings from studies (up to 30% HVAC reduction), free software under an open license for system integrators, HVAC and lighting contractors, and manufacturers to use and deploy. Additional advantages: No construction required, compatibility with existing systems, improved indoor air quality through optimized ventilation, and eligibility for utility rebates in many regions.
Partially funded by CalNEXT and powered by KenergyAI and Mobius Flow, The OpenNLC project starts in early 2026 with pilot implementations. The product and online management system releases in mid-2026 to the public, allowing users to monitor and configure integrations easily.
